Watch my son right after he discovered the prototype poster of the Alex Astronaut ABC. The version you can buy is way more brilliant. Yet my four and a half year old son immediately started singing the alphabet song (in German). This was very heart warming for me after the lot of work I put into it.
It was amazing meeting the pioneers of state of the art VR at the University of Murcia, Spain at the Immersed Europe, the first Event of the immersive technology alliance (ITA) in Europe, 3rd and 4th of September 2015.
I had the honour to be on the panel on friday about “Immersive Tech in Public Exhibition” moderated by Neil Schneider, head of the ITA, together with Kevin Williams, CEO of KWP Limited
and Jose Luis Navarro, CEO of InMediaStudio.

There were lots of wonderful VR experiences I visited including the Mission Impossible A400M VR flight. I put together some photo impressions of Immersed Europe in 4K usable as a wallpaper.
I am looking forward to creating great things with many excellent contacts I encountered during those two days.
Virtual Reality booms, especially “Cinematic VR” starts to get from an experimental stage closer to the production of real movies.
There are many chances the creative VR community faces as well as many challenges of defining best practices, standards and guidelines for responsible VR storytelling and content creation.
As we build our own VR production pipeline for the 3futurez holodeck musical and Gordon’s Arcade is actively engaged in the international VR community I decided to share the questions and the knowledge we are building right now on Cinematic VR to help making VR a success on this planet.

I got some great help at the blender conference 2014 how to create an equirectangular movie rendering. Although the results with vrPlayer looked great first, I suspected there were some problems because the player has the correct 3d information when looking to the initial direction – let’s call it North. But when you look East or West it doesn’t have this information because the camera recording points (your eyeballs) are behind each other. When you turn around finally and look South the 3D information is wrong. It looks like squinting. Things farther away pop out. Have a look at the diagram with the eyeballs looking Nort, East and South.
After some time I wondered if it might be possible to render parts of the image from the correct angle and join them.
During an iterative process I developed a vrTestcard done in blender for your vr headset that can be used with vrPlayer. Continue Reading
