October 14th 2017: My 2017 book is finished.

“The Cinematic VR Formula” is “A Beginner’s Guide to creating Virtual Reality Movies” available as eBook as well as paperback. ( ISBN-13: 978-3944218113 )

I put more than two years of work into it. The book holds a blueprint for creating a VR Movie production pipeline and thinks ahead of VR headsets.
Rather than only headsets I expect many windows to open into this world including light field displays and holographic projections.

The future will be 3D – you may call it the AR-Cloud or the Mixed-Reality-Platform. Some call it USEMIR (Ubiquitous SEnsory MIxed Reality).
It is the platform our interactive immersive experiences run on and provide a bidirectional exchange of information, motions and emotions.

Have fun reading and create amazing VR movies!

Kind regards
Chuck Ian Gordon

P.S.:  As the print quality of some images makes it difficult to read the text due to rasterization, I provide all images of the book online for download as PDF.

Watch my son right after he discovered the prototype poster of the Alex Astronaut ABC. The version you can buy is way more brilliant. Yet my four and a half year old son immediately started singing the alphabet song (in German). This was very heart warming for me after the lot of work I put into it.

It was amazing meeting the pioneers of state of the art VR at the University of Murcia, Spain at the Immersed Europe, the first Event of the immersive technology alliance (ITA) in Europe, 3rd and 4th of September 2015.

I had the honour to be on the panel on friday about “Immersive Tech in Public Exhibition” moderated by Neil Schneider, head of the ITA, together with Kevin Williams, CEO of KWP Limited
and Jose Luis Navarro, CEO of InMediaStudio.

I also put my presentation “Insights into cinematic VR” on slideshare:

InsightsIntoCinematicVR_SlideTitle - view presentation on slideshare.net.

There were lots of wonderful VR experiences I visited including the Mission Impossible A400M VR flight. I put together some photo impressions of Immersed Europe in 4K usable as a wallpaper.

I am looking forward to creating great things with many excellent contacts I encountered during those two days.

There are some great possibilities of using your vr Headset to view 3d surround content even movies.
One wonderful 3d surround video player is vrPlayer ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stephanelx.vrplayer , http://www.vimersiv.com/ ).
Real world content can be recorderd with panocam 3D ( http://www.panocam3d.com/ ).

I got some great help at the blender conference 2014 how to create an equirectangular movie rendering. Although the results with vrPlayer looked great first, I suspected there were some problems because the player has the correct 3d information when looking to the initial direction – let’s call it North. But when you look East or West it doesn’t have this information because the camera recording points (your eyeballs) are behind each other. When you turn around finally and look South the 3D information is wrong. It looks like squinting. Things farther away pop out. Have a look at the diagram with the eyeballs looking Nort, East and South. vrEyesDiagram.A

After some time I wondered if it might be possible to render parts of the image from the correct angle and join them.
During an iterative process I developed a vrTestcard done in blender for your vr headset that can be used with vrPlayer. Continue Reading

3futurezHolodeckMusicalFullHD3futurez is the sequel to the GameW0rldz scifi novel and a huge scale project including versions as written novel as well as a holodeck musical.

It covers the next 1000 years of mankind and is (despite some fun stuff) a quite realistic future vision – utopian as well as dystopian.

The essence is the philosophy: If mankind wants to qualify for a 22nd century worth living in we must focus on the old virtues of chivalry and wisdom and take brave steps forward.

Prototyping began with the end of GameW0rldz end 2012 and is on a good way. Check out www.3futurez.com for stunning details of this leading edge endeavour.

GameW0rldz was the first project of Gordon’s Arcade and started end of 2010.

It is the science fiction debut novel by Chuck Ian Gordon published in German end of 2012 and later end of 2013 in English available as paperback and as eBook.

GameW0rldz is about a wild hunt of artificial intelligences through multiplayer game worlds continuing in the real world after they uploaded themselves into robot bodies.

Dangerous, right? But guess who the good and bad guys are…

Oh yes – and GameW0rldz is the prequel to the 3futurez scifi novel and holodeck musical.
